  9. PageStream 3.0i progress: we are obviously rather far behind
  10. schedule on this. Slipping past the WOA Toronto show date had rather
  11. serious consequences for our development schedule. We really wanted
  12. to get it done by then because we knew that with some upcoming
  13. holidays for our staff, slipping one or two weeks really meant
  14. slipping several weeks.

  16. I don't have a solid estimate of when it will be released. This
  17. doesn't mean it's months away, but that it's hard to estimate the
  18. time required for a couple of thorny problems. But since everybody
  19. keeps asking when it will be done, I will tell you that our current
  20. in-house goal is January 26th. Please don't hold us to this date.
  21. I'm just telling you this so you don't check online everyday for a
  22. new patch file. It definitely won't be earlier than the week of Jan
  23. 22-26th.

  25. We asked our GEnie customers a while back if any of them with the
  26. Epson Stylus Color series printers would like to test the new driver
  27. before it was released. (We're adding a Stylus Color driver in 3.0i,
  28. and we'd like it to get a bit wider testing than our betatesters can
  29. provide.) However, we have to give these people the entire 3.0i beta
  30. because the new driver isn't compatible with 3.0h2. Because I have
  31. to put together a special beta package anyway for these volunteers,
  32. I asked the boss if I could offer the beta to other PageStream3
  33. owners, seeing as 3.0i was kind of overdue. He agreed and extra
  34. testing is always welcome, so...
  35.  
  36. If anybody who is a =registered owner= of PageStream3 would like to
  37. try the 3.0i beta, please send me =email=. The email =must= include
  38. your registration number and name. You must use CompuServe, GEnie or
  39. the Soft-Logik BBS to receive the beta. Sorry, no FTP, uuencoded
  40. email, etc. All requests for the beta received before 1200CST
  41. January 8th will receive the beta on January 8th. Requests received
  42. after then but before 1200CST January 12th will receive the beta on
  43. January 12th. No requests after January 12th please.

  45. Caveat #1: the beta does not come with an installer. You must move
  46. the files to the correct directories yourself.
  47.  
  48. Caveat #2: the beta includes only files new since 3.0h2. You must
  49. have 3.0h2 installed and you must install the beta files on top of
  50. it. You won't be able to use the 3.0h2 to 3.0i public patch unless
  51. you remember to back up your PageStream3 and BME program files
  52. =before= installing the beta, and to replace them before running the
  53. 3.0i patch.

  55. Caveat #3: you would have to download approximately 1MB at your own
  56. expense to get the beta.

  58. If you're unsure of how to do #1 or #2, or can't afford #3, please
  59. don't ask for the beta. Why would you want the beta? Probably for
  60. the cool Pen and Reshape tools. Maybe for the new Epson driver. Maybe
  61. for the CyberGfx support. It's up to you. See the changes log below
  62. for details.

  75. - Fix style tag & text color related problems.

  77. TEXT:
  78. - Implemented font caching. In previous versions, PageStream
  79.   allocated memory for fonts as you used them until you ran out of
  80.   memory. It now caches the last 10 fonts used. When you use the
  81.   11th font, the first one is uncached.
  82. - Changed the <As Is> text displayed in lists when attributes were
  83.   indeterminate (see page 25 of the manual) to more specific text:
  84.   <Mixed>  Means that the selected text or objects have mixed
  85.            attributes.
  86.   FontName A fontname above a divider in a font list means that
  87.            the font is not currently installed. PageStream will
  88.            display the text in another font, but will remember the
  89.            font name so that you know which font to add.
  90.   Additional text strings will be added as required in the future.
  91.   If the font attribute is not mixed, <As Is> or <Mixed> will no
  92.   longer be shown in the font popup menu control.
  93. - Fixed the problem with cursor movements being acted upon before
  94.   the last buffered text.
  95. - Fixed the hyphenation rules problems; before and after character
  96.   rules were being ignored.
  97. - AGaramond and ABembo Expert families will no longer be re-encoded.
  98.   (ie, the characters will now be in the right positions.) Other
  99.   Expert families will continue to be re-encoded, so if you use a
  100.   different one, contact Soft-Logik Technical Support at
  101.   tech@slpc.com.
  102. - Fixed a problem with inserting user variables.

  104. OBJECT DRAWING & MANIPULATION:
  105. - Completely implemented the Pen tool!!!
  106. - Completely implemented the Reshape tool!!!
  107. - Implemented the Reshape tool for reshaping grid objects. (Not in
  108.   manual, new featurette.)
  109. - Fixed the scale problem with dissolving scaled drawings.
  110. - Fixed the problem with transforming when the offsets were zero
  111.   but scale or rotation was not zero.
  112. - Fixed the problem with resizing drawings with the Edit palette
  113.   or Edit requester.
  114. - Fixed the problem with importing ILUS files containing drawing
  115.   objects.
  116. - Fixed the problem with Distribute when using bounding box and
  117.   either left, center or right spacing.
  118.  
  119. OPEN/SAVE:
  120. - When you open a PageStream2 document, a requester will now open
  121.   with five options to help you convert the text to use the new
  122.   formatting commands in PageStream3. This requester is documented
  123.   in the online help system.
  124. - Fixed the crash bug with Revert to Saved.
  125.  
  126. POSTSCRIPT PRINTING:
  127. - Fixed arrowhead printing to PostScript printers.
  128.  
  129. EPSON DRIVER:
  130. - Completely rewrote the Epson driver to take into account the
  131.   varying margins of newer models.
  132. - Added XPD files that describe Epson printer standards in the
  133.   SoftLogik:Printers/XPD directory. XPD/EpsonModels is a table of
  134.   each model and the XPD file that matches it. All XPD files are
  135.   in ASCII format, so you can add your own. If you add or modify
  136.   one, or use an Epson compatible model that is not in the table,
  137.   please provide us with the details via email (tech@slpc.com)
  138.   so that we can update our master files.
  139. - Added many more brands and models to the Epson compatible model
  140.   list. If you had selected a Generic model, please reset your
  141.   settings because there are additional generic variations now.
  142. - Added the Epson Stylus Color series to the Epson driver.
  143.  
  144. MISC:
  145. - Added support for CyberGfx. You can now work in up to 24 bit
  146.   mode on a CyberGfx compatible system! Note that the problem with
  147.   crashing when changing screen modes and quitting is due to a bug
  148.   in the CyberGfx software which will be fixed in its next update.
  149. - The splash screen (startup and About requesters) now displays
  150.   much faster.
  151. - Changed the default path for Backups to Documents/Backups from
  152.   just Backups. If you have already saved your settings, this will
  153.   not affect you.
  154. - Fixed the problem with the Auto Kerning command becoming unchecked
  155.   when cancelling the Auto Hyphenation requester.
  156.  
  157. MACROS:
  158. - IMPORTANT: Changed parameter names for: DISPLAY, SETTOOLMODE.
  159. - New commands for: ***document new commands***
  160. - New parameters for: NUDGE, MOVE, DISPLAY, SETTOOLMODE.
  161. - Removed the HIGHDATA parameter from ADDAREXXGADGET. Remove this
  162.   from any scripts you have created. (Amiga only)
  163.  
  164. BME:
  165. - Fixed a serious problem with pasting a bitmap larger than the
  166.   current image. This could also affect rotating a selection so that
  167.   the selection was now larger than the image in one direction.
  168. - Changed the Emboss filter so that the lightsource is in the upper
  169.   left corner.
  170.
